Abstract: | Bair R. D. and Etges F. J. 1973. Differences in esterase frequencies in five strains of Biomphalaria glabrata (Say). International Journal for Parasitology, 3: 43–46. Vertical polyacrylamidegel electrophoresis of extracts from hepatopancreas tissue of individual snails of five laboratory strains of Biomphalaria glabrata has shown considerable variation in the frequency of occurrence of ten esterases. Differences in esterase frequencies seemed correlated with strain differences in certain morphological, physiological, and biochemical aspects of the snail strains; however, no causal relationships are apparent in these systems. |
