Abstract: | The protective effect of PVP and HES on noncryogenic injury to red cells was tested. The results indicate that PVP K-30 and HES have a protective effect against mechanical injury to the red cell, while only PVP K-30 shows a protective effect against osmotic fragility. The relationship between those results and cryoinjury and cryoprotection is discussed. |
