Abstract: | Amygdalin in given to male Swiss-Webster mice i.p. at 3g/kg 1 hour prior to 75 mg/kg i.v. of alloxan, was able to protect against the diabetogenic actions of alloxan. The data are consistent with the concept that the protection by amygdalin is due to its scavenging of the deleterious and highly reactive hydroxyl radical which was generated from alloxan. Several other mechanisms of protection are also viable. |
