Gap Junction Modification in Hepatic Cells of a Fasting Freshwater Teleost (Pimelodus maculatus)

Scarce information concerning gap junction modifications in liver cells is found in the literature. The fine details of gap junctions in the hepatocytes of the teleost Pimelodus maculatus fasting during 3 months are reported for the first time in the present study. In this experimental condition two forms of gap junction appear: a bulge-like and a ring-shaped form. The functional significance of these structures is discussed.
