Abstract: | A far-red absorbing pigment with an absorption maximum at 742nm was formed in wheat leaves treated with amitrol. Spectralchanges of this pigment on treatment with Triton X-100 or acetonesuggested that the pigment is a form of chlorophyll producedby inhibition of a step of chlorophyll biosynthesis during chloroplastdevelopment.
