| Abstract: | Various purine and pyrimidine analogs were amebicidal. The inhibition of Endamoeba histolytica by these compounds was reversed by purines and pyrimidines. Some new synthetic pyrimidine amides had greatest antiamebic activity. It is proposed that these analogs act as antimetabolites and block nucleic acid metabolism in the amebae. |
