Estimation of annual increment of underground plant biomass in a grassland community (Polygalo-Nardetum)

The paper sums up the first knowledge obtained from the study of seasonal changes in the growth and decomposition rate of underground plant biomass in a grassland community (Polygalo-Nardetum) in the highland ?eskomoravská vrchovina. The maximum increment of underground organs per day was recorded in late summer (14.04 g. m^?2.d^?1). The period of May to July was characterized by the highest rate of decomposition of underground parts per day (up to 27 g.m^?2.d^?1). The estimated annual net production of underground plant organs was 0.81 kg.m^?2.
