Abstract: | The positions of ewes and lambs from three breeds of sheep were observed in a field during 29 hours of observation over 3 weeks. It was found that the Dalesbred and Clun Forest sheep kept apart while resting and for most of the grazing time. The Jacob flock divided into two groups and mixed with the others in a transient way. The aggregation of the breeds varied in that the Dalesbred ewes and lambs dispersed over the field in pairs while the Cluns gathered in larger groups. The Jacobs were rarely seen in groups of more than 12 animals. The difference in breed behaviour and identity is discussed. |
