Abstract: | Clinical studies have indicated a close relationship between immunological competency and the growth of human cancer. Studies in animal systems have indicated that immunological mechanisms are important in host-tumor existence. A number of agents are in the process of being evaluated for their immunotherapeutic potential in patients with cancer. These include levamisole, bacille Calmette Guérin (BCG) and Corynebacterium parvum. While the precise role of these agents in the treatment of human malignancy remains to be clearly defined, they do appear to be useful as adjuncts to other forms of cancer therapy such as radiation therapy, chemotherapy and surgical operation. |
