Abstract:Single-stranded ribopolymers were extracted from purified reovirus and separated into several oligomers by DEAE-cellulose column chromatography. These oligomers were found to consist of two classes: (a) Sequences terminated with 5′-guanosine diphosphate (ppGp) including ppGpC, ppGpU, ppGpCpC, ppGpCpU, and ppGpCpUpA; and (b) polyadenylic acid consisting of 10–15 bases and containing 5′ monophosphates. The possible origin of these two classes of oligomers in reovirus is discussed.
