Abstract: | Experiments were conducted to determine the nature of the damage produced by direct currents on the order of 20–70A pasing through bean plants. Positive or negative current refers to the polarity of the high voltage electrode attached to the leaf. For positive currents plant collapse seems to occur from the leaf down and is accompanied by browning and wrinkling of the leaf and a change in the space charge near the soil electrode. For negative currents collapse seems to occur from the base up; leaf browning and withering are not observed. |
