| Abstract: | Methods are evaluated for the preservation of the hyperthermophile Pyrococcus furiosus . The use of glass capillary tubes stored over liquid nitrogen with dimethyl sulphoxide appears to be the preferred method of preservation. Lyophilization resulted in loss of viability and storage at room temperature and +4°C resulted in considerable loss of viability within 4 weeks. |
