Abstract: | Regenerative medicine is evolving fast, in particular since the potential of stem cells has been assessed. This evolution process requires the development of new tools capable of meeting the needs of this field of investigation. Cell delivery is a crucial issue for the success of regenerative medicine as cells should be easily seeded, expanded and introduced on site with maintenance of their phenotype and their capability to develop into a neo tissue/organ. On a material standpoint, cell delivery system should meet the preceding needs but also permit an easy introduction at the site and remain without hampering tissue development. As is shown in this review, polysaccharide hydrogels, and in particular in situ forming ones, are materials with a high application potential in regenerative medicine. |
