On Symptoms of Main Diseases and Pests in Areca catechu at the Seedling Stage and the Methods for Their Control

The robustness of betelnut palm(Areca catechu)seedlings directly affects their growth rate at the early stage,fruit quality at the middle and late growth stages,and their final fruit yield.This paper reviews the occurrence symptoms and control methods of the main physiological disorders(albedo,sunburn and fertilizer damage),infectious diseases(anthracnose,macrophoma leaf spot and blight)and insect pests(Temnaspidiotus destructor,Dasychira mendosa,Stenocatantops,red spider and Aleurocanthus spiniferus)for A.catechu seedlings.Based on the occurrence rules of diseases and insect pests during the seedling stage of A.catechu,the prevention and control methods for them are discussed so as to provide reference for the prevention and control of diseases and insect pests during the seedling stage of this fruit crop.
