Abstract: | The effect of autologous serum in cellular cytotoxicity was compared with the level of antibody towards the same target cells. In cancer patients, a highly significant correlation (P < 0.001) argues that enhancement of cytotoxicity by autologous serum is due to high antibody levels, and conversely an inhibition of cytotoxicity is associated with low antibody. Moreover, some antibody was detected in virtually all cancer patient and normal donor sera. It is suggested that antibody may be responsible for cytotoxicity conventionally ascribed to “natural killer” cells. |
