An analytical appraisal of energy transduction mechanisms

The nature of mechanisms and energy profiels for reactions in biological systems is examined. Simple molecular and complex phase intermediates are described. The conceptual problems in energy transduction, related to phase intermediates are made evident by reference to different facets of the problem—stereochemical changes, charge fluxes,E ^o changes, and changes in the activities of H₂O and H⁺.
