Abstract:Type III secretion is used by many Gram-negative pathogenic bacteria to inject effector proteins into eukaryotic host cells. Effector delivery requires a secretion apparatus, called an injectisome or needle complex, and the assembly of a translocation pore in a target-cell membrane. Recent work provides evidence that enlightens the view of how pore assembly might occur and of how the injectisome and the pore might be linked.
