Abstract: | A DNA fragment containing a Klebsiella oxytoca gene for aesculinase activity was cloned on the multicopy plasmid pBR322. This β-glucosidase activity was confined to aesculin hydrolysis only. It was expressed equally well in Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium and Aeromonas hydrophila. Two polypeptides were found to be encoded within the 2·6 kb of the cloned DNA encoding aesculinase activity. |
