Chemical synthesis of highly unsaturated fatty acids. IV. A new procedure for the preparation of substituted propargyl iodides

An improved method for the preparation of substituted propargyl iodides is reported. These compounds are easily accessible by the reaction of the corresponding methanesulfonates with sodium or magnesium iodide. The yields do not depend on the number of triple bonds. Even substituted propargyl iodides with five acetylenic bonds are obtained in very high yields.
