Incorporation of 14C leucine into the fat body of the cockroach Periplaneta americana during oöcyte development

The fat body of Periplaneta americana incorporates labelled leucine into the protein during the period of oöcyte formation. The protein isolated from the ovary shows radioactivity only in the 20 hr treated animals; in the 1 hr treated animals the ¹⁴C activity is below background levels. The protein contents of the fat body and ovary were measured during the reproductive stages. The measurements indicate that the fat body may not store the protein which it synthesizes during reproduction.
