Abstract: | Studies on the effect of soil temperature on internal water relations of well watered soybean (Glycine max L.) at constant air temperature under controlled conditions were carried out. A specially designed thermogradient tank was used for obtaining a range of soil temperatures. Data on shoot height, shoot weight, root length, root weight, leaf area and leaf water potential were obtained at 41 days after sowing and the highest values of these parameters were recorded at 28.6°C. The air temperature during the course of these investigations was 25±1°C and it may be concluded that slightly warmer soil temperatures than air temperatures were optimal for soybean with regard to the above measured parameters. |
