Abstract:Streptococcus pyogenes is a gram-positive pathogen that causes many human diseases. Its phosphoenol pyruvate-dependent phospho-transferase pathway (PTS) is composed of system permease (EII), general PTS, system protease I (EI), and histidine-containing protein (HPr) regulated by the phosphorylation state of HPr, and has functions of ingesting glucose, sugar, and fructose. The PTS component affects the expression of SLS, Mga and sagA and other virulent factors. This article mainly reviews the components of the PTS system, its regulatory mechanism, carbohydrate intake, and its effects on virulence, and provides a basis for in-depth research on regulatory network and metabolic pathways affected by the Streptococcus pyogenes PTS system.
