Growth regulatory effect of three benzimidazole fungicides on the germination of celery (Apium graveolens) seeds

Seeds of four celery cultivars did not germinate when incubated in buffered solutions in the dark at 22 °C. This high-temperature-induced dormancy was broken with either of the systemic fungicides benomyl or BAS 3460 F (mainly methyl-2-benzimidazole carbamate) when used in combination with a mixture of the gibberellins A₄ and A₇ (GA_4/7). The fungicide thiabendazole was ineffective in these tests.
