| Abstract: | Some properties of transitions generated during an imprecise replication of nucleic acids are described here. A possible role of these transitions in the evolution of the genetic code with respect to the evolution of the tertiary structure of proteins is suggested. The data supporting this hypothesis are obtained from the analysis of certain regularities present in the genetic code and in the proportions of amino acid residues buried in the interior of globular proteins. |
