Abstract: | Penicillium spp. isolated from the sediments of ponds in continental Antarctica have been studied and compared with species obtained from similar environments in the Apennines of the Liguria region, in northwestern Italy. The antibacterial activity exhibited by some strains was evaluated against standard strains using both liquid and solid media. The preliminary data suggest an antibacterial activity similar to β-lactam antibiotics. Accepted: 24 October 1999 |
