Abstract:Based on changes in planktonic foraminifer assemblages and carbonate content of deposits in the sedimentation column from the northeastern Iceland Basin, nine isotope stages are recognized, covering 300 ka. The study of benthic foraminifer assemblages in the section has shown that, most of this time, it contained “old” water, isolated for a long time from the surface, with a low content of oxygen. At transitions from glacial conditions to interglacials, it was displaced by North East Atlantic Deep Water.
