Abstract:Free plasma estrogens were measured during the estrous cycle of the ewe. Estrogens measured were estrone (1, 3, 5(10)-estratriene-3-ol-17-one), estradiol-17β (1, 3, 5(10)-estratriene-3, 17β-diol), and 16-ketoestradiol-17β (1, 3, 5(10)-estratriene-3, 17β-diol-16-one), which were identified in plasma from pregnant ewes. The total estrogen level was found to increase from a low value of 0.14 μg/100 ml plasma at two days following ovulation to a high value of 2.53 μg/100 ml plasma just prior to ovulation. Ketoestradiol was found to be the estrogen with the highest concentration of all estrogens measured during the estrous cycle.
