Abstract: | —The role of the pentose phosphate pathway in brain glucose metabolism was studied in hypoxic rats. The method of directly labelling the 6-phosphogluconate pool was used in both in vivo and in vitro experiments. Results indicate that there is significantly more glucose metabolized via this pathway in brains of hypoxic rats than in the controls. |
