Abstract: | Transfection of 3T6 cells with a cloned polyomavirus genome encoding only large T antigen resulted in DNA replication with only about 1/10 the efficiency of wild-type viral DNA coding for all three T antigens. This replication defect was at least in part overcome by the simultaneous transfections of polyomavirus genomes which allowed the expression of small T antigen. We conclude that polyomavirus small T antigen has a (probably indirect) role in replication. |
