Abstract: | The metabolic turnover of phenol-soluble nuclear proteins during bovine spermatogenesis is described. Several methods for the isolation and purification of two proteins, one from early developing sperm cells, and one from mature sperm cells, are also discussed. These methods involve ways in which single proteins can be extracted from polyacrylamide gels and ultimately suspended in an aqueous phase. Preliminary evidence is presented which suggests that these two proteins are chemically distinct and may be functionally related to sperm maturation. |
