Abstract: | Summary The HeLa-S3 cell strain grown in Ham's F12 medium supplemented with insulin, transferrin, cortisol, epidermal growth factor, fibroblast growth factor, and trace elements, but containing no serum, continued to produce the common α-subunit of the glycoprotein hormones for the 10 d study. The amounts of α-subunit secreted into the medium during the first 4 d were indistinguishable from those in F12 medium supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum. During the remainder of the experiment the amounts of α-subunit reached 50 to 80% those in the serum-supplemented medium. |
