Abstract: | Stigmatella aurantiaca, strain DW-4, is a bacterium that grows as single cells in liquid culture but will synchronously aggregate and construct multicellular fruiting bodies when starved on an agar surface. The fruiting body consists of a stalk and several sporangia housing differentiated myxospores. Fruiting body development is stimulated by exposure of the aggregating cells to incandescent light. |
