Abstract: | The topography of the antennal afferent pathway has been studied in detail for the first time in a myriapod, Cylindroiulus punctatus, by cellular staining, following localized application of cobalt chloride to the cut end of one antenna. At the lateral entrance of the sensory antennal nerve into the deutocerebrum, 3 main groups of tracts have been distinguished. In the antennal lobe, there are two groups of glomeruli: a ventral group of 3 glomeruli and a dorsal group of 15 or 16 glomeruli. The number, position and dimensions of the glomeruli indicate that the glomerular organization is globally invariant (5 individuals). |
