| Abstract: | Summary The rate of fall in the proportion of plasmid-containing cells in a population ofBacillus subtilis 1A297[pVC102] grown in continuous culture was independent of growth rate. Plasmid loss could not be ascribed to faulty partitioning during cell division. At a low dilution rate, the specific rate of plasmid loss exceeded the specific growth rate of the plasmid-containing cells. |
