Abstract:Rhytachne gonzalezii is described and illustrated. It ranges from Apure, Venezuela to Pará, Brazil. It is the third annual species known in this tropical African-American genus. Previously it had been confounded with the perennialR. rottboellioides from which it differs in its habit, branching culms, smaller sessile spikelets and rachis internodes, and awned upper glume.
