Abstract: | 1. Arginase was found to be present in the intestine in all species of Annelida, Arthropoda and Chordata studied. 2. The activity of intestinal arginase differs from species to species, the differences reaching two orders of magnitude (100 x). 3. The highest activity of intestinal arginase was observed in the rodents (mouse, rat, hamster). 4. In animals in which the enzyme activity was high or moderately high, arginase activity showed topographical differentiation along the long axis of the intestine. |
