| Abstract: | A method is described for the rapid screening of large numbers of E. coli colonies for detection of auxotrophs and mutants defective in sugar or succinate metabolism. The procedure permits recognition of forward mutations in a large number of functions and is applicable to the isolation of temperature-sensitive mutants in essential and nonessential genes. |
