Abstract:We mapped the locations of the genes encoding the slow skeletal muscle, fast skeletal muscle, and cardiac isoforms of troponin I (Tnni) in the mouse genome by interspecific hybrid backcross analysis of species-specific (C57BL/6 vs Mus spretus) restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLPs). The slow skeletal muscle troponin I locus (Tnni1) mapped to Chromosome (Chr) 1. The fast skeletal muscle troponin I locus (Tnni2), mapped to Chr 7, approximately 70 cM from the centromere. The cardiac troponin I locus (Tnni3) also mapped to Chr 7, approximately 5–10 cM from the centromere and unlinked to the fast skeletal muscle troponin I locus. Thus, the troponin I gene family is dispersed in the mouse genome. Received: 10 May 1995 / Accepted: 1 September 1995
