The effect of hexafluorodiethyl ether (flurothyl) on the metabolism of rat brain amino acids labelled by (U-14C)glucose

Abstract:The incorporation of radioactivity into the Krebs cycle related amino acids from U-14C]glucose has been studied in rat brain during the development of a seizure induced by Flurothyl at (1) the time of the first myoclonic jerk, (2) 40 seconds later, and (3) at the onset of the seizure. Under the experimental conditions employed no change was observed in the levels of the amino acids or in the specific radioactivity of glutamate, aspartate, glutamine, GABA or alanine at any of these times.
