Abstract:Mepacrine, an inhibitor of arachidonic acid mobilisation, and NDGA, a lipoxygenase inhibitor, were found to impair the aggregation of SV40-3T3 cells but the effects could not be unequivocally dissociated from non-specific actions of the drugs. No effect on aggregation was observed even after prolonged exposure of the cells to the cyclooxygenase inhibitors aspirin and indomethacin. These results argue against a possible regulatory role for endogenous AA metabolites in intercellular adhesion of SV40-3T3 cells.
