Abstract: | The bile alcohols present in the feces of a patient with cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis were studied. Three bile alcohols which are different from any known natural bile alcohol were isolated as minor components of the fecal bile alcohol fraction. The structures of these compounds were established as 5 beta-cholestane-3 alpha, 7 alpha, 12 alpha, 23 beta-tetrol, 5 beta-cholestane-3 alpha, 7 alpha, 12 alpha, 24 alpha-tetrol, and 5 beta-cholestane-3 alpha, 7 alpha, 12 alpha, 24 beta-tetrol by comparison with synthetic samples. |
