PREDAEA WELDII,A NEW SPECIES OF RHODOPHYTA FROM HAWAII,WITH AN EVALUATION OF THE GENUS1

A new species of Predaea (Gigartinales, Rhodophyta) is described from Hawaii. It is compared in important morphological details with other species of the genus, all of which are distributed in the subtropics. Predaea is likewise compared to the genera of Nemastomataceae, and should be included in that family. The genus Yadranella Ercegovic (Nemaliales, Rhodophyta) is placed in synonymy with Predaea.
