| Abstract: | The global amino acid composition of bacteria growing in different media has been studied. The data reveal significant changes in the amino acid composition in the growth rate range between 0.5 and 2.1 doublings per hour at 37 degrees C. The changes are consistent with a progressive simplification of the protein population and mRNA pools as the growth rates increase. |
