Abstract:Phosphofructokinase activity in prepubertal rat ovaries is elevated by in vitro treatment with human chorionic gonadotropin or N6-O2′-dibutyryl-adenosine-3′,5′-monophosphate. Puromycin and actinomycin D have no appreciable effect on the hormone-induced enzyme increase but the stimulatory effect of the cyclic nucleotide is blocked by puromycin. In the light of these and other observations, the possible mode of action of the gonadotropin is discussed.
