Wide distribution of cellobiose-oxidizing enzymes in wood-rot fungus indicates a physiological importance in lignocellulosics degradation

Abstract:When grown on lignocellulosic materials, cellobiose-oxidizing enzyme activities were detected in Coriolus versicolor, Flammalina velutipes, Ganoderma gibbasum, Hericium erinaceus, Neurospora crassa and Schizophyllum commune. No cellobiose-oxidizing enzyme activities were detected in 14 other cellulolytic fungi which are recognized as having no or very low lignin-degrading ability.
