Abstract: | Rat subcutaneous tissue contains relatively large amounts of hexosamine (0.4% dry wt.), 33% of which can be specifically accounted for by the presence of a mucopolysaccharide (probably hyaluronic acid). Somewhat less than 49% of the total connective tissue hexosamine is present in ground substance proteins having the same electrophoretic mobilities as serum proteins. Expressed in terms of total tissue water, these proteins are present in a concentration of 4.7%. |
