Glutathione peroxidase,glutathione reductase,and thiobarbituric acid-reactive products in muscles of chickens and mice with genetic muscular dystrophy

The specific activities of glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase, and the level of thiobarbituric acid-reactive products in muscles from chickens and mice with genetic muscular dystrophy were increased over those of control animals. These findings indicate the occurrence of lipid peroxidation and the activation of an $\text{in}$$\text{vivo}$ lipid peroxidation protective system in these dystrophic animals. A partial explanation for some of the metabolic changes that occur in dystrophic species is provided by this work.
