The emergence and evolution of antimicrobial resistance: Impact on a global scale

Abstract:The evolution of antimicrobial resistance is a multifaceted issue that is influenced by numerous factors. This growing healthcare problem has significantly impacted the public welfare and has substantially burdened the economic system on a global scale. In an effort to combat this rising problem, several strategies have been implemented in the recent years to stall the progression and decrease the emergence of antimicrobial resistance. The aim of this review article is to describe the various factors that have contributed to the current state of antimicrobial resistance and to evaluate potential strategies developed to reduce the burden of antimicrobial resistance.
