| Abstract: | A consideration of developmental constraints at the tissue level brings into focus the relationship between genes, cell behavior and morphological evolution. This common framework provides a rationale for phenomena as seemingly divergent as the lack of homeotic appendages in humans and the Cambrian explosion. |
