A micro-colorimetric method for the determination of shikimic acid

Abstract:
  • 1.1. A spectrophotometric determination of shikimic acid, based on the reaction of the periodate oxidation product of shikimic acid with aniline to yield a Schiff's base, is described.
  • 2.2. Sugars, amino acids, and other organic acid so far tested give no color reaction in the procedure concerned.
  • 3.3. The content of shikimic acid in several plant tissues is determined.
